Couverture

Download

The third edition of a classic book, Basic Ideas and Concepts in Nuclear Physics sets out in a clear and consistent manner the various elements of nuclear physics. Divided into four main parts: the constituents and characteristics of the nucleus; nuclear interactions, including the strong, weak and electromagnetic forces; an introduction to nuclear structure; and recent developments in nuclear structure research, the book delivers a balanced account of both theoretical and experimental nuclear physics.
In addition to the numerous revisions and updates to the previous edition to capture the developments in the subject over the last five years, the book contains a new chapter on the structure and stability of very light nuclei. As with the previous edition the author retains a comprehensive set of problems and the book contains an extensive and well-chosen set of diagrams. He keeps the book up to date with recent experimental and theoretical research, provides mathematical details as and when necessary, and illustrates topics with box features containing examples of recent experimental and theoretical research results.

Concise Physical Chemistry

Download

This book is a physical chemistry textbook that presents the essentials of physical chemistry as a logical sequence from its most modest beginning to contemporary research topics. Many books currently on the market focus on the problem sets with a cursory treatment of the conceptual background and theoretical material, whereas this book is concerned only with the conceptual development of the subject.  Comprised of 19 chapters, the book will address ideal gas laws, real gases, the thermodynamics of simple systems, thermochemistry, entropy and the second law, the Gibbs free energy, equilibrium, statistical approaches to thermodynamics, the phase rule, chemical kinetics, liquids and solids, solution chemistry, conductivity, electrochemical cells, atomic theory, wave mechanics of simple systems, molecular orbital theory, experimental determination of molecular structure, and photochemistry and the theory of chemical kinetics.

Dark Matter and Dark Energy: A Challenge for Modern Cosmology

Download

This book brings together reviews from leading international authorities on the developments in the study of dark matter and dark energy, as seen from both their cosmological and particle physics side. Studying the physical and astrophysical properties of the dark components of our Universe is a crucial step towards the ultimate goal of unveiling their nature. The work developed from a doctoral school sponsored by the Italian Society of General Relativity and Gravitation. The book starts with a concise introduction to the standard cosmological model, as well as with a presentation of the theory of linear perturbations around a homogeneous and isotropic background. It covers the particle physics and cosmological aspects of dark matter and (dynamical) dark energy, including a discussion of how modified theories of gravity could provide a possible candidate for dark energy. A detailed presentation is also given of the possible ways of testing the theory in terms of cosmic microwave background, galaxy redshift surveys and weak gravitational lensing observations. Included is a chapter reviewing extensively the direct and indirect methods of detection of the hypothetical dark matter particles. Also included is a self-contained introduction to the techniques and most important results of numerical (e.g. N-body) simulations in cosmology. This volume will be useful to researchers, PhD and graduate students in Astrophysics, Cosmology Physics and Mathematics, who are interested in cosmology, dark matter and dark energy.

The Birth of Cells and Galaxies

The above picture shows the birth of a live cell and the birth takes merely minutes or even less while in the lower picture, we can see the birth of a galaxy which takes millions of years. We can't but glorify Allah, the almighty since the shape is the same but the difference in time is huge. The question to all those who doubt that this universe has a creator is who designed these creatures in the same method and shape? Isn't it the same creator who says in the holy Qur'an:

“Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the Guardian and Disposer of all affairs.” Zumar: 39: 62

Isn’t the above picture sufficient proof that there’s merely one God, Allah?

Earth’s Rotation

It’s a scientific fact that the earth rotates round its own axis in a circular motion and its speed at the equator is about 1670 km per-hour, a speed that’s faster than that of sound which is 1,200 km per-hour, still we don’t feel such rotation. Allah, the exalted says in the holy Qur’an:
“Thou seest the mountains and thinkest them firmly fixed: but they shall pass away as the clouds pass away: (such is) the artistry of Allah, who disposes of all things in perfect order: for he is well acquainted with all that ye do.”  Naml or Ants: 27:88
In addition to rotating round its axis, the earth rotates round the sun very fast, more than one hundred thousand km per-hour. In other words, the earth rotates round itself one full rotation every day and rotates round the sun one full rotation every year and it also rotates along with the solar group round the center of the galaxy in more than 200 million years to complete one rotation. Let’s contemplate the following ratios concerning the rotations; a day, a year, 200 million years. What’s more is that the entire galaxy rotates in an enormous orbit whose end is known by no one except for Allah, the omniscient; Allah, the almighty says in the holy Qur’an:

“It is not permitted to the Sun to catch up the Moon, nor can the Night outstrip the Day: Each (just) swims along in (its own) orbit (according to Law).” Ya-Sin: 36: 40

Such facts prove the mighty of Allah, the great; all glory to Allah.

In both classical and quantum mechanics, the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalisms play a central role. They are powerful tools that can be used to analyze the behavior of a vast class of physical systems. The aim of this book is to provide an introduction to the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalisms in classical systems, covering both non-relativistic and relativistic systems. The lectures given in this course have been recorded on video and uploaded on YouTube. At the beginning of each chapter we provide a link to the YouTube-videos covering that particular chapter. It is our goal that students who study this material afterwards will find themselves well prepared to dig deeper into the remarkable world of theoretical physics at a more advanced level. We have carefully chosen the topics of this book to make students proficient in using and understanding important concepts such as symmetries and conservation laws, the special theory of relativity, and the Lagrange/Hamilton equations.

Physical Foundations of Cosmology

Couverture

Download

Inflationary cosmology has been developed over the last twenty years to remedy serious shortcomings in the standard hot big bang model of the universe. Taking an original approach, this textbook explains the basis of modern cosmology and shows where the theoretical results come from. The book is divided into two parts; the first deals with the homogeneous and isotropic model of the Universe, the second part discusses how inhomogeneities can explain its structure. Established material such as the inflation and quantum cosmological perturbation are presented in great detail.

This is a picture of a 10-million-light year cosmic bridge that joins between two groupings of galaxies. Scientists affirm that the universe is rich in giant structures such as bridges and walls and they are made of galaxies and form solid cosmic buildings. All glory to Allah, the almighty who talks about such structures in the holy Qur’an using a wonderful expression which is zodiac. Allah, the exalted says in the holy Qur’an:

It is We Who have set out the zodiacal signs in the heavens, and made them fair-seeming to (all) beholders;” Hijr or the Rocky Tract: 15: 16

he radius of the earth is Talmost 6,400 km and its medial crustal thickening is 30 km below the continents and mountains, but it becomes around 5 km below sea beds and oceans. Such layer is thin and breakable and that’s why the earth’s crust is divided into 12 plates or more. Enormous masses of seas, therefore, slip from the bottom of oceans and dive under the ground. Scientists are concerned about the loss of quantities of fresh water deep under the ground and the inability of people to make use of it. All glory to Allah, the almighty for the holy Qur’an warns against such a phenomenon and talks about the possibility of disappearance of water under the layers of the earth. Allah, the exalted says in the holy Qur’an:

“And We send down water from the sky according to (due) measure, and We cause it to soak in the soil; and We certainly are able to drain it off (with ease).” Mu’minun or the Believers: 23: 18

Allah also says in the holy Qur’an:

“Say: "See ye?- If your stream be some morning lost (in the underground earth), who then can supply you with clear-flowing water?"” Mulk: 67: 30

Shall we then return to the path of Allah, the exalted!
