This book brings together reviews from leading international authorities on the developments in the study of dark matter and dark energy, as seen from both their cosmological and particle physics side. Studying the physical and astrophysical properties of the dark components of our Universe is a crucial step towards the ultimate goal of unveiling their nature. The work developed from a doctoral school sponsored by the Italian Society of General Relativity and Gravitation. The book starts with a concise introduction to the standard cosmological model, as well as with a presentation of the theory of linear perturbations around a homogeneous and isotropic background. It covers the particle physics and cosmological aspects of dark matter and (dynamical) dark energy, including a discussion of how modified theories of gravity could provide a possible candidate for dark energy. A detailed presentation is also given of the possible ways of testing the theory in terms of cosmic microwave background, galaxy redshift surveys and weak gravitational lensing observations. Included is a chapter reviewing extensively the direct and indirect methods of detection of the hypothetical dark matter particles. Also included is a self-contained introduction to the techniques and most important results of numerical (e.g. N-body) simulations in cosmology. This volume will be useful to researchers, PhD and graduate students in Astrophysics, Cosmology Physics and Mathematics, who are interested in cosmology, dark matter and dark energy.

The above picture shows the birth of a live cell and the birth takes merely minutes or even less while in the lower picture, we can see the birth of a galaxy which takes millions of years. We can't but glorify Allah, the almighty since the shape is the same but the difference in time is huge. The question to all those who doubt that this universe has a creator is who designed these creatures in the same method and shape? Isn't it the same creator who says in the holy Qur'an:
“Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the Guardian and Disposer of all affairs.” Zumar: 39: 62
Isn’t the above picture sufficient proof that there’s merely one God, Allah?

Scientists affirm that the universe is rich in giant structures such as bridges and walls and they are made of galaxies and form solid cosmic buildings. All glory to Allah, the almighty who talks about such structures in the holy Qur’an using a wonderful expression which is zodiac. Allah, the exalted says in the holy Qur’an:
It is We Who have set out the zodiacal signs in the heavens, and made them fair-seeming to (all) beholders;” Hijr or the Rocky Tract: 15: 16

The Spherical Earth
A picture of the earth that shows its spherical shape and shows the day and night, God be He exalted says: (He has created the heavens and the earth with truth. He makes the night to go in the day and makes the day to go in the night. And He has subjected the sun and the moon, each running (on a fixed course) for an appointed term. Verily, He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving) [Surat
The holy verse:
God be He exalted says: (He has created the heavens and the earth with truth. He makes the night to go in the day and makes the day to go in the night. And He has subjected the sun and the moon, each running (on a fixed course) for an appointed term. Verily, He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving) [Surat
The explanation of the verse:
God be He blessed and exalted talks about His countless graces, so He tells us about the creation of the heavens and the earth, He also makes the night goes in the day and the day goes in the night (their succession). He also subjected the sun and the moon, each running to a certain day.
And here we can deduce an important scientific sign that the shape of the succession of the day and night is a spherical shape as they interfere with each other.
Scientific fact:
The spherical shape of the earth has become one of the definite facts and this is shown in the pictures that have been taken to the earth from the outer space. In 1968, the spaceship Apollo has taken the first picture to the earth and after that thousands of pictures have been taken to the earth; all of them have shown the earth like a ball that floats in the darkness.
The point of inimitability:
From this holy verse and especially in His Almighty saying: "He makes the night to go in the day and makes the day to go in the night" we can notice that the day and night moves in a spherical system and interfere with each other and this doesn't occur unless the earth is like a sphere and this is what has been actually found by scientists.
The question here: If Mohammad peace be upon him wasn't a messenger from Almighty God, then from where has this expression come "He makes the night to go in the day and makes the day to go in the night" and how did he know that the earth is like a sphere? This is from the signs of the prophecy of Mohammad peace be upon him.

In its fiscal year 2002 budget summary document the Bush administration expressed concern-based in part on the findings and conclusions of two National Research Council studies-about recent trends in the federal funding of astronomy and astrophysics research. The President's budget blueprint suggested that now is the time to address these concerns and directed the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to establish a blue ribbon panel to (1) assess the organizational effectiveness of the federal research enterprise in astronomy and astrophysics, (2) consider the pros and cons of transferring NSF's astronomy responsibilities to NASA, and (3) suggest alternative options for addressing issues in the management and organization of astronomical and astrophysical research. NASA and NSF asked the National Research Council to carry out the rapid assessment requested by the President. This report, focusing on the roles of NSF and NASA, provides the results of that assessment.
